Box Score Washington, D.C. – Junior outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) paced the St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team with 10 kills and 18 digs as the Seahawks dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision at Gallaudet University in non-conference action Tuesday night.
This is Blanc's fourth double-double of the season while junior outside hitter Jenn Rindone (Crofton, Md./Spalding) contributed eight kills and 11 digs in the loss. Junior right-side hitter Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) also had eight kills for the Seahawks (5-14).
St. Mary's collected a 25-19 victory in the first set before Gallaudet (14-6) responded with a 25-15 win in the second. The teams continued to alternate wins as the Seahawks claimed a 25-20 triumph in the third followed by a 25-15 Bison win in the fourth to force a fifth and deciding set.
The fifth set was neck-in-neck until Gallaudet used a 5-1 run to claim a 14-10 advantage and held on for the 15-12 victory and match win.
Sophomore setter Rachel Wilson (Damascus, Md./Damascus) paced the team with 19 assists.
The Seahawks have earned an 11-day rest as St. Mary's won't be back in action until Saturday, October 15. St. Mary's will travel to Grantham, Pennsylvania to take on Messiah College in non-conference action at 11:00 am.
