Harrisonburg, Va. – Senior midfielder Valerie Landis (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) scored 2:08 into overtime to propel Eastern Mennonite University to a 3-2 non-conference win over the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team Wednesday afternoon.

Landis picked up a feed from first-year forward Janessa Derstine (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock)  and found the back of the goal for her first tally of the season.

Eastern Mennonite (2-3) outshot the Seahawks, 22-6, while penalty corners were even at 5-5.

St. Mary's (1-3) struck first nearly six minutes into the game as junior defender Ali McIntosh (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) put back the rebound of first-year midfielder Daniella Hanacek's (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) blocked shot.

The Royals responded at 11:37 as Derstine scored off a feed from junior forward Jenna Longenecker (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley).  Six minutes later, McIntosh notched her second goal of the day and gave the Seahawks a 2-1 halftime lead as junior forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) assisted on the play.

Derstine assisted on the game-tying goal as sophomore forward Nicole Bencsik (Telford, Pa./Souderton) put the finishing touches on Derstine's pass at 49:28.

First-year goalie Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) matched her season-best with nine saves in the loss.

St. Mary's will return to action on Friday, September 16 as the Seahawks open up Capital Athletic Conference action in Frederick, Maryland, taking on Hood College (1-1) at 4:30 pm.
