Box Score Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team opened up Capital Athletic Conference action with a 2-0 shutout of Hood College Saturday afternoon as sophomore forward Johanna Rambo (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) and first-year midfielder Lexy McCarty (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) found the back of the net in each half.
St. Mary's, who is undefeated on the season at 4-0 (1-0 CAC), has won all four contests by shutouts as sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) owns a 360-minute scoreless streak.
Rambo snuck one past senior goalkeeper Kirsten Cacciola (Cavetown, Md./Smithburg) in the 28th minute as she capitalized on a misplayed ball by Cacciola. The Seahawks headed into halftime with the 1-0 lead.
McCarty notched her first collegiate goal in the 60th minute as she poked through a loose ball during a scramble in front of the goal.
St. Mary's dominated the game with 28 shots to Hood's three while the Seahawks owned an 8-1 margin in corner kicks. Two of the Blazers' (1-4, 0-1 CAC) shots were on target but Wirtz had no trouble turning those away.
The Seahawks face tough competition on Tuesday, September 20 as St. Mary's welcomes No. 7 Johns Hopkins University (4-0) to Seahawk Stadium for non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
