Box Score Salisbury, Md. – Senior midfielder Ryan Plaisance (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) netted the lone goal for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team in their 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference setback at Salisbury University Saturday afternoon.
This afternoon's loss sealed St. Mary's (4-12, 1-5 CAC) spot as the No. 6 seed in the 2012 CAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament which begins Sunday, October 28. The Seahawks will travel to third-seeded York College of Pennsylvania for first round action and will look to avenge their 4-0 loss to Spartans on October 13.
The Seahawks staked an early 1-0 lead as Plaisance took a left-footed shot from outside the 18 and placed it into the right side of the goal.
St. Mary's almost headed into halftime with the one-goal margin before junior midfielder Elliott Crompton (Baltimore, Md.) connected with fellow midfielder Pat Callahan (Clarks Summit, Pa.) for the equalizer at 40:35, sending the two teams into intermission locked in a 1-1 draw.
Callahan struck again with another cross that senior forward Adrian Tombini (Olney, Md.) knocked in for the eventual game-winner at 54:14.
Salisbury (9-5-2, 4-1-1 CAC) posted a 22-10 shot advantage while owning a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) came up with 10 saves while senior John Vnenchak (Flanders, N.J.) notched two stops.
