Box Score 2 St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team continued their winning ways Friday as St. Mary's kicked off the 8th Annual Seahawk Invitational with a pair of victories to extend its win streak to seven matches in a row. The Seahawks (19-7) started with a 3-1 win over Randolph College before sweeping Lycoming College.
St. Mary's posted its second-highest hitting percentage of the season against Randolph (7-23), connecting on .370 of its attacking attempts while stifling the Wildcat offense and holding them to a mere .098 attacking percentage. The Seahawks achieved set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 22-25, 25-3 in the match win.
Senior right-side hitter Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) paced St. Mary's in the win over Randolph with 14 kills and a .500 hitting percentage while seniors Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) and Jenn Rindone (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and junior libero Bianca Livioco (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) each collected 15 digs for the defensive effort.
The Seahawks cruised to a 25-3 win in the fourth set as Blanc served for 18 straight points, carrying her team from a 7-3 mark all the way to match point. She served up two aces in the 18-0 run.
St. Mary's picked up set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-10 against Lycoming (21-10). Rindone and first-year middle blocker Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia, Md./Atholton) notched double-digit kills in the team's sweep. Rindone was the offensive leader with 11 kills and three service aces while Goodspeed added 10 kills and one ace.
Rindone registered her third double-double of the season as she guided the Seahawks defensively with 16 digs while Livioco tallied 10.
Senior setter Dani Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), this week's conference Co-Player of the Week, dished 46 assists between the two matches.
The Seahawks will wrap up tournament play tomorrow with matches happening at 1:00, 3:00 and 5:00 pm in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena and the Somerset Gymnasium. Prior to St. Mary's 3:00 pm match with Hollins University, the team's four seniors – Blanc, Mullennix, Rindone and Thorne – will be recognized for their years with the Seahawk volleyball program.
