St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team saw their eight-match win streak come to an end Saturday afternoon as St. Mary's split its matches on the final day of the 8th Annual Seahawk Invitational.  The Seahawks (20-8) began with a 3-1 win over Hollins University before dropping a 3-0 decision to Stevenson University.

St. Mary's overcame a slow start in its match with Hollins (6-23) as Hollins claimed a 25-23 triumph in the first set.  The Seahawks quickly regrouped and won three straight for the match, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

Junior right-side hitter Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and first-year middle blocker Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia, Md./Atholton) headlined a Seahawk quartet that finished with double-digit kills.  Klima and Goodspeed both notched a dozen kills while senior right-side hitter Shelby Mullennix (California, Md./Leonardtown) added 11 and senior outside hitter Jenn Rindone (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) contributed 10 kills.

Junior libero Bianca Livioco (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) paced the defensive effort once again with 24 digs while senior outside hitter Cecilia Blanc (Gaithersburg, Md./Poolesville) picked up 18 and senior setter Dani Thorne (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), this week's conference Co-Player of the Week, wrapped up her ninth double-double of the season with 24 assists and 14 digs.

The Seahawks could not establish a rhythm in their match with Stevenson (33-2), registering their lowest hitting percentage of the season at .085.  The Mustangs posted set scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-17.  The match featured 18 tied scores and nine lead changes.

Rindone led the offense with seven kills while Rindone and Livioco came up with 14 digs each.  Goodspeed and Mullennix contributed to the defense with 4.0 total blocks apiece.

Prior to the start of the Hollins match, St. Mary's four seniors – Blanc, Mullennix, Rindone and Thorne – were recognized for their outstanding careers with the Seahawk volleyball program.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm as third-seeded St. Mary's hosts sixth-seeded York College of Pennsylvania in the first round of the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament.
