Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior midfielder Yvonne Latour (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) netted her first career hat trick in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team to a 6-0 shutout of Marymount (Va.) University in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (5-5-1, 2-1-1 CAC) started the scoring early as first-year forward Jess Konecke (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) put back the rebound of senior forward Tori Eskay's (Damascus, Md./Urbana) shot just a minute in following sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Wyand's (Mamora, N.J./Ocean City) initial save.
Latour doubled the lead at 7:34 as she converted on a penalty kick after Eskay was taken down in the box. Eskay then made it a 3-0 contest at 22:04 as she finished off a shot to the middle far post after receiving a feed from sophomore Liz Mosher (Bethesda, Md./The Madeira School [Va.]).
St. Mary's headed into halftime with a 4-0 advantage as junior midfielder Marilyn Hucek (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sent in a pass to senior forward Kim LaBarge (Gambrills, Md./South River) who finished just inside the near post.
Marymount (5-5, 0-4 CAC) increased its offensive efforts in the second half but were unable to put one past junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford).
Latour picked up her second of the day at 52:20 as she dribbled in past the Saint defense and took senior goalie Gaby Prellezo (Coral Gables, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes) one-on-one. Latour was back for her third a little over four minutes later as Mosher slotted a pass into the box and Latour finished to the right of Prellezo.
St. Mary's edged the Saints, 15-11, in shots while corner kicks were even at two apiece.
Wirtz finished the match with four stops for her fourth shutout of the season while Wyand ended with one save in the first half and Prellezo came up with two in the second stanza.
The Seahawks will be back in action next Saturday, October 13 when St. Mary's travels to Lexington, Va. to face Washington & Lee University in non-conference action at 3:30 pm.
