Gettysburg, Pa. – Richard Möller's first game as the head coach of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team did not finish as planned as the Seahawks dropped a 4-1 decision Friday afternoon to former Capital Athletic Conference opponent, the Stevenson University Mustangs, in the opening game of the Gettysburg College Cup.

The Seahawks (0-1) started off strong with the first goal of the match at 15:17, capitalizing on a Stevenson (1-0) turnover.  Junior forward Jo Rambo (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) fired in the shot from outside the box while senior midfielder Liza Sitz (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) and sophomore Liz Mosher (Bethesda, Md./Madeira) both assisted on the play.

Stevenson evened up the score at 24:50 as Jamie Matlock (Bridgeton, N.J.) connected on a header from the left side of the box.

The 1-1 draw carried into the second half before Shannon McGuire (Darnestown, Md.) converted a penalty kick at 46:41.  Matlock picked up her second goal of the contest at 59:42 for the two-goal cushion while Alicia Greene (Jarrettsville, Md.) sealed the win for the Mustangs with her tally at 75:52.

Stevenson posted a 24-7 margin in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) had her work cut out for her, making five stops in the game, while her defensive line helped out with three denials.

The Seahawks will look to rebound tomorrow when St. Mary's faces Lebanon Valley College in the final day of the Gettysburg Cup.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.
