St. Mary's City, Md. – For the fifth consecutive season, the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team has captured their season-opener as the Seahawks posted a 3-1 non-conference win over the Delaware Valley College Aggies Friday afternoon.

Delaware Valley (0-1) struck first nearly 10 minutes into the contest as first-year forward Taylor Prichett (Southampton, Pa.) deflected in junior forward Leah Hawthorn's (Camp Hill, Pa.) attempt.  The Aggies maintained the 1-0 lead until senior forward Lauriann Parker (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) fired in a shot from the right side of the 16-yard circle towards the far post for the Seahawks' first goal of the game at 32:56.  The two teams headed into halftime with the 1-1 deadlock.

Parker gave the Seahawks (1-0) their first lead of the game at 41:09 as she rifled in a shot from the top of the circle into the lower left corner.

Nine minutes later, sophomore Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) connected on a pass from Parker for her first goal of the season.

St. Mary's controlled the game with a 12-5 shot advantage and an 11-5 penalty corner margin, including a 6-0 edge in the second half.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) needed just three saves for the win.  Junior Sandra Edwards (Oxford, N.J.) picked up four stops in goal for the Aggies.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, September 5 when St. Mary's travels to Owings Mills, Md. to take on former Capital Athletic Conference foe, Stevenson University, in non-conference action at 4:00 pm.
