Seahawk Women's Soccer Falls Short at McDaniel

Box Score

Westminster, Md. – The two-game winning streak of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team came to an end Tuesday afternoon as host McDaniel College came away with a 1-0 non-conference victory on a late second half goal.

Following a scoreless first half, the game-winning goal came in the 75th minute as first-year forward Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md.) collected a through ball from senior Liz Beall (Westminster, Md.), dribbled around a Seahawk defender and then beat junior goalkeeper Kelsey Wirtz (Parkton, Md./Hereford) who came out to cut down the angle.

McDaniel (3-0) outshot the Seahawks, 6-3, in the first half but Wirtz and the St. Mary's defense withstood the Green Terror attack with three saves and sent the two teams into halftime in a scoreless draw.

The Seahawk attack came alive in the second half with a 10-4 advantage but was unable to put one past senior Jan Woolley (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata).

St. Mary's (2-2) finished with a 13-10 edge in shots while corner kicks were even at three apiece.

Wirtz finished with four stops for the Seahawks while Woolley also had four saves to record her second shutout victory.

The Seahawks will look to get back in the win column this Saturday, September 15 when St. Mary's welcomes York College of Pennsylvania to Seahawk Stadium for the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both teams.  Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm.
