Seahawk Field Hockey Nips Randolph-Macon

Box Score

Ashland, Va. – Junior forward Gabby Collins (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) propelled the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference win over Randolph-Macon College Tuesday afternoon, notching the game-winning goal with just 10 seconds left in regulation.

Collins tallied an unassisted score at 69:50 for her second goal of the season, helping the Seahawks (5-3) to rebound from Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference loss to No. 2 Salisbury University and lifting the team to their fifth victory of 2012.

Randolph-Macon (2-7) edged St. Mary's in shots, 16-14, while owning a commanding 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.  The Seahawks stood strong against R-MC attack as sophomore Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) tallied seven stops and senior defender Ali McIntosh (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) picked up two defensive saves.

St. Mary's scored the first goal of the contest a little over five minutes into the start of the game as sophomore Olivia Edwards (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) took a feed from first-year midfielder Katie Weller (Grasonville, Md./The Gunston School) and found the back of the cage at 5:25.

The 1-0 Seahawk lead remained until the 55:07 mark when sophomore midfielder Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va.) slipped one past Bishop with first-year midfielder Mackenzie Turner (Virginia Beach, Va.) assisting on the equalizer.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Woodworth (Culpepper, Va.) registered nine saves in the Randolph-Macon loss.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, September 28 when St. Mary's travels to Dover, Delaware to take on Wesley College under the lights in Capital Athletic Conference action at 7:00 pm.
