Box Score York, Pa. – Senior captain Austin Brown (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) picked up a career-best 13 saves Wednesday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 4 York College of Pennsylvania in Capital Athletic Conference action.
York (13-1-0, 5-0-0 CAC) posted a 2-0 halftime advantage behind a goal and an assist by senior Jake Hower (Lake Forest, Calif.) as well as two assists from senior Chris Weaver (Baltimore, Md.). The Spartans posted a 13-4 shot advantage in the first half and Brown denied four.
Brown came up big in the second stanza for the Seahawks (4-6-2, 1-2-0 CAC) nearly holding York scoreless over the final 45 minutes with nine stops on 21 shots faced. The Spartans' final tally of the contest came in the 86th minute as sophomore Greg Bechard (Newark, Del.) headed in the rebound of one of Brown's saves.
York collected a 9-1 corner kick margin in its 10th shutout victory of the season while junior Brad Schmidt (Moorestown, N.J.) recorded three saves in the win.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th when the Seahawks travel to Frostburg State University for another league match at 4:00 pm.
