Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team braved the elements to pick up their first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season at Frostburg State University Saturday night, handing the host Bobcats a 4-0 setback behind junior forward Olivia Edwards' (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) first career hat trick.
Edwards opened up the scoring for the Seahawks (8-4, 1-2 CAC) just a little over 16 minutes into the first half off an assist from sophomore forward Nina Collins (Clarksville, Md./River Hill). Over a minute later, Edwards found the back of the cage again to give St. Mary's a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Sophomore defender Ally Dahlen (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) was able to extend the Seahawk lead to 3-0 off a penalty corner at 42:53. All hopes of a Frostburg State (6-11, 1-4 CAC) come back were silenced with Edwards' third and final goal.
Junior goalkeeper Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) recorded her second shutout of the season as Bishop came up big with four second half saves, helping the Seahawks cruise to a 4-0 decision.
Sophomore Megan Grimm (Pasadena, Md.) led the Bobcats with four saves while first-year Jacqueline Gover (King George, Va.) relieved Grimm in the second half. Gover allowed one goal and made two saves in the final 22 minutes.
St. Mary's continued their winning ways against Frostburg and this victory makes it seven consecutive wins versus the Bobcats. The Seahawks hope to stay in the win column when they travel to No. 7 Salisbury University on Wednesday, October 23 for a league game at 6:00 pm.
