Box Score Fayetteville, N.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team succumbed to its second consecutive overtime decision, falling 2-1 in double overtime to the host Methodist University Monarchs Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (1-3-2) are now 0-2-2 in four overtime contests while two of their three losses have been one-goal decisions. St. Mary's will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18th, hosting No. 2 Johns Hopkins University in Seahawk Stadium at 4:00 pm.
First-year defender Victoria Martins (Palm Coast, Fla.) lifted the Monarchs (2-2-1) to the 2-1 win five minutes into the second extra period as Martins blasted a shot past first-year goalkeeper Sara Eaton (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal).
Eaton finished the contest with six stops as she faced 17 shots while Methodist's senior Sarah Hayden (Frederick, Md.) came up with one save on nine shots faced.
Methodist, who posted a 10-6 margin in corner kicks for the game, owned a 1-0 halftime advantage behind first-year forward Deycasha Miller's (Citrus County, Fla.) goal at 11:53. Miller banged the shot off the left post after receiving a pass from first-year midfielder Leslie Coates (Newport News, Va.).
Sophomore forward Jess Konecke (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) collected her team-leading third goal of the season at 62:45 to even the score as Konecke headed in her own rebound.
