Box Score Glassboro, N.J. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team was held scoreless for just the second time this season as the Seahawks dropped a 5-0 decision to Rowan University Saturday afternoon.
St. Mary's (1-5-2) had scored at least one goal since playing to a scoreless draw with Rutgers University-Newark in its season-opener on August 30th. Rowan (7-1), who is ranked seventh in the South Atlantic region, was the fifth New Jersey Athletic Conference opponent that the Seahawks have faced this season.
The two teams played evenly in the first half with five shots each while neither team forced a corner kick in the first half. First-year goalkeeper Sara Eaton (Portland, Ore./Oregon Episcopal School) picked up three saves in the first 45 minutes while first-year Carleigh Trivino (Caldwell, N.J.) made two stops as the teams headed into halftime in a scoreless draw.
Rowan erupted for five unanswered goals, including a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, as the Profs posted a 13-1 shot advantage and 6-0 corner kick margin in the second half. Senior defender Miranda Donnian (Sewell, N.J.) scored twice to pace Rowan in the win.
Eaton finished the contest with six saves while Trivino added one more stop before being replaced by first-year Jamie Cheeka (Clark, N.J.) in the final 10 minutes of the game.
St. Mary's will be idle until next Saturday, September 21st when the Seahawks open up Capital Athletic Conference action by hosting University of Mary Washington at 1:00 pm in Seahawk Stadium.
