St. Mary's Field Hockey Beats Randolph-Macon 3-2 in OT

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Sophomore defender Ally Dahlen (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) lifted the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to their fourth consecutive one-goal victory Thursday afternoon as Dahlen scored with five minutes left in overtime for the 3-2 non-conference win over Randolph-Macon College.

The Seahawks (5-2) earned a penalty corner and senior captain Claire Kortyna (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit the ball out to first-year forward Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) who then passed it to Dahlen. Dahlen ripped a shot from the top of the circle past a diving senior Steph Talley (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) to notch St. Mary's fifth win in a row.

St. Mary's posted a 25-15 shot advantage, including a 6-2 edge in the extra period. The Seahawks garnered 15 corners to Randolph-Macon's nine. Junior goalkeeper Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) made seven stops, including four in the first half, while Talley finished the game with 11 saves.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Saturday, September 28 when St. Mary's travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia to face Eastern Mennonite University in a non-conference game at 2:00 pm.

Junior midfielder Catherine Pricone (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) picked up her team-leading 11th goal of the season at 5:53 to give Randolph-Macon (3-5) the early 1-0 advantage as senior forward Lauren Seal (Orange, Va./Orange County) assisted on the play.

The Seahawks responded in the 32nd minute as Wolf fired in a shot from the top of the circle just inside the left post. The two teams headed into halftime even at 1-1.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead at 48:07 as junior defender Carrie Jacobs (Orange, Va./Orange County) put in a loose ball at the far post. Sophomore midfielder Grace Reingruber (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) answered back for St. Mary's at 64:28 with her first goal of the season off an assist by Dahlen to force overtime.
