St. Mary's Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Five

Williamsport, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team finished action at the 20th Annual Lycoming College Warrior Tip-Off Classic Saturday with two more wins to post a 4-0 record at the tournament. St. Mary's (12-2) closed out the tournament with victories over the host Lycoming Warriors, 3-1, and Elmira College, 3-1.

Sophomore middle blocker Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second time this season after notching 52 kills, 18 total blocks, and six digs in four matches.

The Seahawks started off the day with set scores of 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21 in the win over Lycoming (12-7), snapping the Warriors' four-match win streak. Three St. Mary's players notched double-digit kills as Goodspeed led the way with a match-best 16 kills while adding four block assists.

St. Mary's hit nearly 28% as sophomore Karlee Vaillant (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) tallied a team-best .360 hitting percentage en route to 11 kills while sophomore captain Autumn Fisher (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) contributed 13 kills as well as a career-best four service aces.

Senior Elaina Straub (Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch) dished out a season-best 24 assists while first-year Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) chipped in 21 helpers. First-year Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./Pallotti) picked up a match-best 27 digs to lead the Seahawks' defensive effort.

The Seahawks won their first two sets against Elmira (11-7) before dropping the third one. The team rallied in the next set for the four-game win. St. Mary's registered set scores of 25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13 in the victory.

Vaillant was leading attacker in the win over Elmira with a career-best 13 kills while helping to set up the wall at the net with a career-high 13 total blocks (career-best 12 block assists) for her second double-double of the season. Goodspeed wasn't far behind with a dozen attacks.

Graf earned her seventh double-double of the season with 24 assists and 16 digs while adding a season-best seven total blocks (season-high 6 block assists). Hill recorded 23 digs on the defensive front and chipped in four aces.

After being on the road for the entire month of September, the Seahawks will finally play at home in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena on Tuesday, October 1. St. Mary's will host Gallaudet University that night at 7:00 pm in non-conference action.
