Seahawk Volleyball Finishes Hollins Invitational Undefeated

Roanoke, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team ran the table at the Hollins University Green Invitational as the Seahawks (5-1) wrapped up tournament action with a 4-0 record after defeating Hollins (1-6) and Emory & Henry College (5-1) Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore middle blocker Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and first-year setter Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) both represented the Seahawks on the All-Tournament Team after solid efforts over the four matches.

St. Mary's notched set scores of 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 in its victory over Hollins as Graf collected her second double-double on a match- and season-best 12 kills, making no errors for an impressive .545 hitting percentage, and 14 assists. Graf was one dig shy of a triple-double as she posted nine.

Defensively, sophomore defensive specialist Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and first-year Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./Pallotti) carried the load. Johnson tallied a career-best 15 digs while Hill added 10. Goodspeed contributed 5.0 total blocks (2 solos, 3 assists) as well as seven kills.

Sophomore setter Grace Chao (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) helped out with 15 assists, three digs and two service aces.

Sophomore captain Autumn Fisher (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) paced St. Mary's in its win over the Emory & Henry Wasps with 10 kills while Goodspeed added nine. The Seahawks picked up set scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 in handing Emory & Henry its first loss of the season.

Graf and Chao combined for 36 assists as Chao recorded her first double-double of 2013 with 16 helpers and 10 digs. Hill continued her solid defensive play with 18 digs while Goodspeed and senior captain Michelle Klima (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) each tallied four block assists.

St. Mary's will look to extend its four-match win streak next Saturday the 14th at a tri-match hosted by Gettysburg College. The Seahawks will take on Hood College at noon before facing Gettysburg at 2:00 pm.
