St. Mary's City, Md. – Three Seahawks scored in double digits as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team battled Marymount (Va.) University Saturday afternoon in their first game of the New Year. Marymount maintained its perfect Capital Athletic Conference record as the Saints escaped with a 59-55 victory.

Senior Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) notched her sixth double-double of the season with 22 points and a game-high 15 rebounds while adding a season-best three assists. Fellow classmate Shana Lewis (Bowie, Md./Bowie) contributed 13 points, four boards, season-best three steals, and three assists while sophomore guard Anna McClain (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends School) tallied a career-best 10 points, four assists, three caroms, and three steals.

The Seahawks (3-7, 1-3 CAC) erased a nine-point halftime deficit with a 10-0 run to start the second half en route to posting its first lead of the game since the 14:59-minute mark. Marymount (7-4, 3-0 CAC) rebuilt a 45-37 advantage at 8:29 as senior guard Katelyn Fischer (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) contributed five points in the 9-0 run.

St. Mary's continued to work and senior Marché Pearson (Baltimore, Md./Laurel) tied the game at 49-49 with 2:04 left in regulation to cap the 12-4 run. Fischer then knocked down her fifth three-pointer of the game and converted two free throws to extend the Saints' lead to 57-52. Junior guard Matti Vagnoni (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School) drained a three of her own to close the gap to two with 11 ticks left.

Fischer, the two-time reigning CAC Player of the Year, finished with a game-high 29 points as she was the only Saint to score in double figures. Sophomore center Miranda Krott (Temple, Pa./Oley Valley) paced Marymount on the glass with six rebounds.

In the first half, Marymount used an 18-4 run to establish its biggest lead of the game, 24-11 at 7:43, as Fischer collected three long-range shots in the run. The Saints carried a 34-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. Fischer led all players at intermission with 17 points while Pruden paced St. Mary's with 13 and eight boards.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, January 8th as St. Mary's welcomes Frostburg State University to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for another conference match-up at 6:00 pm.
