Box Score

Middletown, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team used a balanced attack to sweep host Penn State Harrisburg Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Seahawks improved to 11-6 (2-1 CAC) on the season while Harrisburg dropped to 1-18 (0-3 CAC).

St. Mary's posted set scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 for its second consecutive conference win. A pair of nine-kill performances were put in by junior middle hitters Mandy Goodspeed (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and Karlee Vaillant (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) while sophomore Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) made no errors in contributing seven kills and hitting .538 for the match.

First-year head coach Jeremy Sands explained, "We had an all team effort today while trying some new strategies out. Mollie Johnson stepped up and helped our offense with 10 assists, which was her first opportunity to set for the team."

The offense rolled smoothly behind 17 assists from Graf, 13 from junior setter Grace Chao (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), and 10 from junior outside hitter Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).

First-year Brigid Morris (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) kept the Lions off balance with a season-best four service aces while Goodspeed and sophomore libero Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./Pallotti) led the effort at the net with 5.0 total blocks each. Vaillant contributed 4.0 blocks (2 solo, 2 assists) as the Seahawks tallied 11.5 total blocks for the match.

Junior middle hitter Kiara Carter (Bronx, N.Y./Milton Hershey) paced the Harrisburg offense with seven kills while first-year setter Casey Stump (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) put up 16 assists. Junior Megan Sheaffer (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) and Stump led the defensive effort with seven digs apiece.

St. Mary's returns home for its next conference match on Tuesday, October 14th. The Seahawks will welcome York College of Pennsylvania (9-15, 2-1 CAC) to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center for a CAC match at 7:00 p.m.
