St. Mary's City, Md. – Junior forward Nina Collins (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win over Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday afternoon.

Before the game began, St. Mary's honored its six seniors – captain Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg), captain Olivia Edwards (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), captain Daniella Hanacek (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton), captain Morgan Lempke (Easton, Md./Easton), midfielder Rachel Natoli (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and goalkeeper Kelly Shuman (Columbia, Md./Atholton) – for their outstanding four-year careers.

The Seahawks (9-3) tallied a goal in each half to stretch their win streak to six and improve their series record against Virginia Wesleyan (3-10) to 9-5 since the series began in 1995.

Collins gave St. Mary's a 1-0 halftime lead as she put in a loose ball for her fourth goal of the season at 21:12.

Collins then picked up her team-leading fifth assist at 39:40 as she deflected a long cross from the right towards the far post where Edwards was waiting to tip it in for her team-leading 13th goal.

St. Mary's finished with an 8-7 edge in shots while posting a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Shuman made two saves in 50 minutes for her first career win while Bishop preserved the team's third shutout win of the season with her strong play in the final 20, making one stop. Hanacek helped out with her team-best third defensive save. Sophomore keeper Lindsay Baker (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) notched five saves in the Marlins' third straight loss.

St. Mary's will return to Capital Athletic Conference action on Thursday, October 16th as the Seahawks put their undefeated 2-0 CAC record on the line, traveling to Dover, Delaware to face Wesley College (5-8, 0-2 CAC) under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
