Seahawk Women's Soccer Falls at Regionally-Ranked Christopher Newport

Box Score

Newport News, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team saw their three-game win streak snapped Thursday night as the Seahawks dropped a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to Christopher Newport University.

St. Mary's (6-5-2, 3-2-0 CAC) remains winless against CNU when the game is played in Newport News and the Captains hold a 4-2 record in the series, which began in 2007.

Christopher Newport (9-3-2, 5-0-0 CAC), who is ranked eighth in the South Atlantic region, outshot the Seahawks, 10-3, and posted a 5-3 edge in corner kicks but first-year goalkeeper Sydney Larkin (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) made four first-half stops to keep them off the scoreboard.

Sophomore forward Victoria Perry (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove) broke the scoreless draw with back-to-back goals in a six-minute span for a 2-0 CNU lead at 59:30. Perry then assisted on the Captains' third goal at 71:50 as senior forward Sarah Perrett (South Riding, Va./Freedom) headed in Perry's cross from the right.

The Seahawk offense was stymied in the second half as Christopher Newport held them without a single shot over the final 45 minutes.

CNU registered a 24-3 advantage in shots as well as a 7-3 margin in corner kicks.

Larkin finished the night with nine stops while sophomore Haley Casanova (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) picked up two saves for the Captains' sixth shutout of the season.

The Seahawks will look to get back on track on Saturday, October 18th when St. Mary's travels to Middletown, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Harrisburg (5-8, 1-4 CAC) at 12:00 p.m.
