Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – Four different players scored Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team began Capital Athletic Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Frostburg State University. Sophomore forward Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) led the Seahawk offense with a goal and two assists.

Today's triumph is the eighth in a row for the Seahawks over Frostburg State in the 18-year series history between the two sides. The win also extends St. Mary's win streak to four.

Junior forward Nina Collins (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) started the scoring for St. Mary's at 12:16 as Wolf put a shot on cage that Collins deflected into the left corner for her third tally of the season. Collins then had a hand in the team's second goal of the afternoon as Collins fed senior captain Olivia Edwards (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) on a give-and-go and Edwards fired on a wide open goal.

The Seahawks (7-3, 1-0 CAC) headed into intermission with a 3-0 advantage behind sophomore forward Carly Todd's (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) second goal of the season at 20:57 as Wolf picked up her second assist of the day.

Wolf then found the back of the cage herself at 45:57, stretching St. Mary's lead to 4-0, as she was set up by Edwards.

Frostburg State (5-6, 0-1 CAC) avoided the shutout at 56:03 when junior forward Jackie Best (Fairfax Station, Va./South County) notched her fifth goal of the season off a pass from junior forward Alexandra Darrow (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch).

The Seahawks posted a 13-10 shot advantage while doubling up on Frostburg State with a 12-6 margin in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) made three saves in 54 minutes while fellow classmate Kelly Shuman (Columbia, Md./Atholton) tagged one stop in the final 16 minutes. Senior defender Daniella Hanacek (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) contributed with her second defensive save of the season.

Sophomore Jacqueline Gover (King George, Va./King George) tallied two saves in 47 minutes before being replaced by first-year Nicole Leighty (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright). Leighty finished with a pair of stops as well. The Bobcats are now on a two-game skid.

St. Mary's will be back in action on Saturday, October 11th when the Seahawks welcome York College of Pennsylvania to Seahawk Stadium for a conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
