Pruden, Lewis Highlight Seahawk Women's Basketball vs. Mary Washington

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team wrapped up their four-game home stand with a 75-40 Capital Athletic Conference loss to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday night.

With the win, Mary Washington (14-6, 7-5 CAC) completes the series sweep of the Seahawks as UMW notched a 69-52 win on its home court on December 14th.

Senior Sophie Pruden (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) put up 12 points and six rebounds while senior Shana Lewis (Bowie, Md./Bowie) recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and season-best 10 boards.

St. Mary's (7-12, 4-8 CAC) had a solid campaign in the first half as the Seahawks owned a 14-11 advantage at 13:13 behind junior guard Matti Vagnoni's (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School) three-point field goal and tied the score four times.

The Eagles posted a six-point lead twice over a seven-minute span before St. Mary's used a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to 29-27 at 1:45 following a jumper by sophomore guard Anna McClain (Durham, N.C./Chapel Hill). Mary Washington closed out the half on a 5-1 run of its own to stake a 34-28 halftime lead.

Pruden netted all of her points in the first half to lead all scorers while sophomore forward Sarah Listenbee (Glenside, Pa./Abington) came off the bench to lend the Eagles six points, including a layup as the half came to a close.

Poor rebounding and less than accurate shooting from the floor and the free throw line cooled off the Seahawks in the second half. Mary Washington outscored the home team, 41-12, as the Eagles shot 45.5% (15-of-33) from the floor to St. Mary's 12.0% (3-of-25).

Junior forward Aubrey Howland (Richboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) paced UMW with a game-best 14 points while senior forward Aby Diop (Springfield, Va./Annandale) contributed 11 points and nine boards. Senior guard Sam Partonen (Burke, Va./Robinson) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with 11 and game-high five assists.

St. Mary's will be on the road this Saturday, February 8th as the Seahawks travel to Western Maryland to take on Frostburg State University in another CAC game at 1:00 p.m.
