Box Score Ashland, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team posted their second scoreless draw of the season as the Seahawks went toe-to-toe with Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon.
Following 110 minutes of action, the Seahawks (3-3-2) and Randolph-Macon (4-1-1) each put up 17 shots. St. Mary's held an 11-8 advantage in shots on goal but neither team was able to penetrate the solid goalkeeping of first-year Sydney Larkin (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) and junior Elizabeth Blanco (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge).
St. Mary's extended its unbeaten streak against the Yellow Jackets to 3-0-1 since 2006 with today's 0-0 draw.
Randolph-Macon outshot the Seahawks, 7-5, and posted a 2-0 corner kick margin in the first half. It was the same shot margin in the second stanza while the Yellow Jackets edged St. Mary's, 4-3, in corners. The Seahawks tallied a 2-1 shot edge in the first 10-minute extra period but Randolph-Macon unleashed a flurry of firepower in the final OT period, outshooting the visitors by a 6-1 margin.
The Yellow Jackets had a solid opportunity to come away with the win in the 107th minute when R-MC nearly capitalized on the lone corner kick of the last 10 minutes off the foot of senior midfielder Jen LaBarge (Gamnbrills, Md./South River). Larkin rose up to the challenge and denied the attempt with her fourth save of the second OT.
R-MC finished with a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks for the game. Larkin registered eight saves in her third shutout of the season while Blanco notched 11 stops for her fourth shutout.
The Seahawks will be back in action next Saturday, September 27 as St. Mary's opens up Capital Athletic Conference action at Frostburg State University (5-1-1) at 5:00 p.m.
