St. Mary's Field Hockey Rebounds with Win at Bridgewater (Va.)

Box Score

Bridgewater, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team snapped their two-game skid Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 non-conference victory at Bridgewater (Va.) College. Senior captain Olivia Edwards (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) scored twice while sophomore forward Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh School) added a goal and an assist to power the Seahawks to the win.

Today's win was the third in a row by the Seahawks over Bridgewater and the first win in the 3-0 win streak that St. Mary's has not needed extra time. The Eagles still hold a 4-3 advantage in the series.

Wolf gave the Seahawks (4-3) a 1-0 lead as she converted a penalty stroke just 49 seconds before halftime. St. Mary's posted a 7-2 shot advantage and 5-1 edge in penalty corners in the first 35 minutes.

One minute into the second stanza, Bridgewater (3-5) knotted the game at 1-1 as junior forward Taylor Prillaman (Magnolia, Del./Caesar Rodney) received a centering pass from senior midfielder Caroline Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and finished for her third goal of the season at 36:03.

Edwards and Wolf worked together to maintain the lead in St. Mary's favor as Wolf fed Edwards for her eighth score of the season at 41:46. Edwards struck again just over 10 minutes later as she picked up a long pass through the circle from sophomore forward Carly Todd (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) for the two-goal Seahawk lead.

Junior midfielder Rachel Loy (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) pulled the Eagles within one at 68:02 after getting a quick dish from fellow midfielder Shannon Strosser (Dover, Del./Smyrna).

St. Mary's finished with a 19-13 shot advantage for the game, including a 12-11 edge in the second half. The Seahawks dominated offensively as well with an 11-4 margin in corners.

Senior captain Christy Bishop (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) finished the afternoon with eight saves while first-year Amanda Harper (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) picked up six in Bridgewater's second one-goal loss of the season.

St. Mary's will face its fifth Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponent in Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday, September 23rd as the Seahawks travel to Ashland, Virginia for non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
