Box Score Middletown, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team began Capital Athletic Conference action in the win column with a 2-0 road victory at Penn State Harrisburg Saturday afternoon, halting a three-game skid.
The Seahawks (5-4, 1-0 CAC) are now 2-0 all-time against Penn State Harrisburg following today's win, having outscored the Lions 3-0 in their two meetings.
St. Mary's did all of its scoring in the first 15 minutes of the game. Sophomore forward Zach Fontenot (Middletown, Md./Middletown) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard at 4:10 as Fontenot broke away for his fourth goal of the season after receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends).
Just a little over 10 minutes later, senior captain Matt Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) collected his fourth score of the season as well at 14:51 following a pass from first-year defender Andrew Battin (Boyds, Md./Clarksburg).
First-year goalkeeper Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) notched three first-half saves to prevent Penn State Harrisburg (6-2, 0-1 CAC) from finding the back of the net.
In the second half, the St. Mary's defense held the Lions to just four shots to preserve the team's second shutout win of the season.
Shots were even at 11 apiece while Harrisburg owned a 7-3 margin in corner kicks.
Haussler finished the afternoon with four stops while sophomore Brandon Hoover (Lancaster, Pa./Pequea Valley) recorded four saves in the Lions' second loss of the season, snapping a three-game win streak.
St. Mary's will take a quick break from conference play to face Goucher College on Tuesday, September 30th at 7:00 p.m. in Towson, Maryland.
