Tait and Kearson Lead St. Mary's Men's Soccer in Blanking of Penn State Harrisburg

Leonardtown, Md. – Midfielders Nick Tait (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) and Juwan Kearson (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) each tallied four points Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team stretched their unbeaten streak to six straight with a 6-0 shutout of Penn State Harrisburg in Capital Athletic Conference action.

St. Mary's (6-3-1, 2-0 CAC) is currently tied for first with Frostburg State University (8-2, 2-0 CAC) in the conference standings. The Seahawks owned a 5-0 halftime lead as Tait scored twice and Kearson added a goal and two assists.

Sophomore forward Alessandro Burlew (Mount Airy, Md./Good Counsel) started the scoring early with an unassisted tally at 4:12. Kearson picked up his first assist of the afternoon when he fed sophomore midfielder Sunny Chhatani (Lima, Peru/Indian Creek [Md.]) for his fourth goal of the season at 15:18.

Kearson followed with his second helper at 27:59 as he assisted on Tait's first of the day for a 3-0 lead. St. Mary's gained a four-goal cushion when Tait tallied an unassisted goal for his ninth of the season at 34:28. Kearson then found the back of the net at 41:15 for a 5-0 advantage at intermission as sophomore forward Adam Kratz (Owings, Md./Northern) assisted on the play.

The only goal of the second half came off the foot of junior forward Zach Fontenot (Middletown, Md./Middletown) as Fontenot put the finishing touches on a corner kick by junior midfielder Yonah Zeitz (Potomac, Md./Edmund Burke) at 58:18.

St. Mary's posted a 13-6 shot advantage while Penn State Harrisburg (2-5-2, 0-2-0 CAC) claimed a 6-4 margin in corner kicks.

Sophomore Zack Haussler (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) made four stops in collecting his second solo shutout win while junior Brandon Hoover (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) came up with two saves in 71:18 minutes of action as the Lions lost their third straight match.

St. Mary's will be back in action on Wednesday, October 7 when the Seahawks welcome No. 20 Salisbury University (6-3, 1-0 CAC) to Seahawk Stadium for a conference match at 4:00 p.m.
