Box Score York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey 2015 season sadly came to an end Sunday afternoon as the fifth-seeded Seahawks dropped a 3-0 decision to fourth-seeded York College of Pennsylvania in the first round of the 2015 CAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament.
Eighth-year head coach Katie Newkirk '06 and the Seahawks concluded this year's campaign with a 7-9 (2-4 CAC) record.
St. Mary's dominated first-half possession with five penalty corners to keeping York's defense busy. However, the Spartans (10-8) earned a 1-0 halftime lead at 29:39 when first-year forward Paige Taylor (York, Pa./Red Lion) collected a pass from sophomore forward Beth Patrick (Pitman, N.J./Pitman) and finished for her second goal of the season.
Corners were even in the second half at three apiece but York outshot the Seahawks, 11-4, and tallied two more goals for the 3-0 final. Patrick added a score of her own at 57:16 as she knocked in a rebound for her third of the season. The Spartans gained a three-goal cushion at 62:03 when sophomore midfielder Ali Posey (Airville, Pa./Red Lion) converted her fourth penalty stroke of the season.
York finished the contest with an 18-7 shot advantage while the Seahawks posted an 8-5 margin in corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made six saves in the loss while senior midfielder Emily Bishop (Columbia, Md./Mt. Hebron) recorded her first career defensive save. First-year Eve Hauptle (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) turned away two shots in York's fourth shutout win of the season.
