Box Score

Westminster, Md. – It was a tough start to the 2015 campaign for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team Tuesday afternoon as the Seahawks dropped a 3-0 decision at McDaniel College.

St. Mary's (0-1) outshot McDaniel (1-0) by a 15-10 margin for the game but were unable to sneak one past sophomore goalkeeper Sarah McDonald (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), who finished the game with five saves. Senior captain Gillian Sawyer (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) paced the offensive effort for the Seahawks with five shots.

The Green Terror posted an early 1-0 lead at 1:55 as junior forward Nicole Hill (Bowie, Md./Bowie) finished off the rebound following sophomore Sydney Larkin's (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) initial save on first-year forward Kirsten Gibson's (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) shot from the right side. McDaniel's 1-0 lead held up for the remainder of the first half.

Hill and Gibson switched roles for McDaniel's second goal of the afternoon as Gibson slid the ball into the left side of the net for a 2-0 advantage at 51:03. Hill notched her second of the day on a wide open net with 43 seconds left in the game.

McDaniel tallied an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks while Larkin finished the game with two stops for the Seahawks.

St. Mary's will look to notch its first win of the season on Saturday, September 5 when the Seahawks travel south to Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
