Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team experienced their fifth straight one-goal contest this season on a hot Saturday afternoon and halted their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 non-conference victory over Bridgewater (Va.) College.
Along with putting an end to their skid, the Seahawks also snapped a streak of three consecutive overtime games. St. Mary's (3-3) has now won four straight over the Bridgewater Eagles (1-6).
Junior forward Brady Wolf (Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh) gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 lead as Wolf converted a penalty stroke at 10:43. The two sides headed into halftime tied at one apiece after senior forward Alenka Ferrufino (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finished at the far post, tipping in senior forward Taylor Prillaman's (Magnolia, Dell/Caesar Rodney) deflection at 26:53.
St. Mary's earned seven penalty corners in the second half to Bridgewater's two and finally scored off one at 57:36. Sophomore midfielder Megan Moore (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) received a pass on her right side from senior midfielder Grace Reingruber (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and then ripped a shot from the top of the circle into the lower left corner.
The Seahawks held on for their third win of the season as St. Mary's posted an 11-6 margin in corners as well as a 9-5 edge in shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made just one save in the game while sophomore Amanda Harper (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) picked up three stops.
The Seahawks will be back in action on Wednesday, September 23 when St. Mary's travels to Winchester, Virginia to take on Shenandoah University (1-4) under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
