Box Score Harrisonburg, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Megan Moore (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) tallied four points in the 10-1 romp tallied by the St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team over host Eastern Mennonite University Saturday afternoon.
Moore contributed her first career hat trick plus an assist while junior forward Carly Todd (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) added two goals and sophomore midfielder Sophie Michel (Westminster, Md./Westminster) collected a goal and an assist.
St. Mary's (4-4) is now 3-2 against Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents after today's victory. The Seahawks have one more ODAC foe left on the schedule as the team hosts Washington and Lee University (3-4) tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The Seahawks scored early and often on route to a 6-1 halftime advantage. Todd and junior Alli Szymanski (Easton, Md./Easton) opened up the scoring with goals at 4:52 and 12:08, respectively, before Moore rattled off three straight for a 5-0 lead at 20:01. St. Mary's increased its lead to six as junior Hannah Schroeder (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) scored her first career goal off a Moore assist at 20:34.
Eastern Mennonite (2-6) avoided the shutout six minutes before intermission as junior midfielder Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) finished off a feed from sophomore forward Mikayla Martin (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer). St. Mary's headed into the break with a 6-1 advantage after outshooting the Royals 15-4 and posting a 4-1 margin in penalty corners.
St. Mary's continued its scoring ways in the second stanza with four more goals. Todd added her second of the day at 50:40 followed by first-year midfielder Mollie Belson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) at 52:20. Michel notched her third of the season at 63:34 while first-year forward Courtney Mellon (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) picked up her first career goal at 67:03.
The Seahawks finished the game with a 28-5 dominance in shots as well as an 8-3 margin in penalty corners. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) needed just one stop for the win while junior starter Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) made five saves in 20:01 and first-year Kelsey Troyer (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) turned away seven in 49:59 as Eastern Mennonite had its two-game win streak snapped.
