St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey ended the regular season on a high note as the Seahawks picked up a 1-0 non-conference win over Virginia Wesleyan College on a rainy Thursday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Following a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Courtney Mellon (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) put the Seahawks on the scoreboard in the 55th minute.
- Junior captain Megan Moore (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) fired in a shot from 16 yards out which sophomore Skye Swain (Newport News, Va./Warwick) initially stopped but the ball trickled through her legs and Mellon was there to tap it over the goal line at 54:45.
- The Seahawk defense did their part as well, holding Virginia Wesleyan to just four shots – all in the second half – and only one penalty corner.
For the Seahawks (5-11)
- Scorers: Mellon (1 goal).
- Goalkeeper: Junior Alyssa Thompson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) (1 save, 0 goals allowed, 70:00).
- Defensive save: Sophomore Brooke Steinhoff (Urbana, Md./Urbana) (1).
- St. Mary's finished the game with 14 shots (nine on goal) and two penalty corners.
For Virginia Wesleyan (7-9)
- Scorers: None.
- Goalkeeper: Swain (8 saves, 1 goal allowed, 70:00).
- The Marlins had four shots (two on goal) and one corner.
Notes
- St. Mary's has now won 10 straight against VWC and improves the all-time record to 11-5.
Up Next for the Seahawks

- York holds a 20-10 series record over the Seahawks, including winning the last four meetings. This season, the Spartans came to Seahawk Stadium and claimed a 3-0 win on October 15.
