Seahawk Volleyball Dominant in Saturday Wins

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team extended their win streak to five Saturday afternoon with a pair of 3-0 victories over Penn State Harrisburg (25-13, 25-12, 25-15) and Bridgewater (Va.) College (25-20, 25-18, 25-15). St. Mary's also raised money and awareness for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its annual Dig Pink! event.

St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Penn State Harrisburg 0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-15)

How It Happened

  • Both senior captain Alli Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and sophomore outside hitter Meghan Kelley (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) recorded double-digit kills in the win with A. Graf leading the way with a match-best 16 kills.
  • Penn State Harrisburg got as close as 11-9 before the Seahawks closed out the first set on a 14-4 run, sealing the win with a kill by junior Brigid Morris (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson).
  • Senior Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./Pallotti) served up an ace to end the second set and give St. Mary's a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • It was more of the same in the third set as the Seahawks notched 15 kills to Harrisburg's seven. Senior setter Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) finished off the set and match win with an ace.

For the Seahawks (16-7, 2-1 CAC)

  • A. Graf (16 kills, 9 digs, 3 assists, 2 block assists); Kelley (12 kills, 2 digs); M. Graf (36 assists, 8 digs, 4 kills); Marissa Dangler (15 digs); Carissa Hill (10 digs).
  • St. Mary's hit .340 for the match with eight service aces and 4.0 team blocks.

For Penn State Harrisburg (6-10, 1-3 CAC)

  • Alexis Imler (6 kills, 6 digs); Casey Stump (18 assists, 6 digs, 2 block assists); Kari Ammerman (11 digs).
  • The Nittany Lions posted a .079 attacking percentage with three service aces and 3.0 team blocks.

St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Bridgewater (Va.) 0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-15)

How It Happened

  • Bridgewater entered the contest on an eight-match win streak but the Eagles were no match for St. Mary's.
  • The Seahawks won six of the first set's final seven points to claim a 25-20 win plus a 1-0 lead. A. Graf put on the finishing touches with back-to-back kills.
  • It was all St. Mary's in the second as the Seahawks rolled to a 22-10 advantage. Bridgewater rallied late, scoring eight of the final 11 points before Kelley threw down a kill for the win.
  • The final set featured just two tied scores and one lead change before St. Mary's built a 23-13 lead and then sophomore middle blocker Hannah Krauss (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) smacked her sixth kill of the match for the win.

For the Seahawks (17-7)

  • A. Graf (19 kills, 23 digs); M. Graf (36 assists, 9 digs, 4 block assists, 3 kills).
  • St. Mary's attacked at a .298 clip for the match with five service aces and 6.0 team blocks.

For Bridgewater (16-4)

  • Abby Mills (13 kills, 10 digs); Rachel Girard (19 assists, 4 digs); Jenna Hamra (10 assists, 5 digs); Macon Frey (15 digs, 2 assists).
  • The Eagles posted a .116 attacking percentage with three service aces.
