  • Records: St. Mary's (1-3, 0-1 CAC), Salisbury (4-1, 1-0 CAC)
  • Location: Salisbury, Md. · Maggs PAC
  • The Short Story: The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team kicked off Capital Athletic Conference action on the road Wednesday night. St. Mary's starts off the conference season with a loss following a 72-36 loss to Salisbury University. Junior captain Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James) paced the Seahawks in tonight's action with 11 points.

How It Happened

  • Kline's three-pointer 24 seconds into the first quarter gave St. Mary's its only lead of the game by a 3-2 margin. Following an offensive board and jumper by senior guard Lauren Rothfeld (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin), the Sea Gulls put together an 18-6 run for an 11-point lead. Kline made two free throws to halt the run and the end the quarter.
  • Senior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Kline combined for the first five points of the second stanza, helping St. Mary's cut the deficit to four. Both sides would finish with seven points and Salisbury carried a 27-18 lead into the locker room at intermission.
  • At the half, Kline had tallied eight of her 11 points while Haller grabbed nine rebounds, including eight defensive caroms.
  • The Sea Gulls broke the game wide open in the third, collecting 16 of their 32 points off of 12 St. Mary's turnovers in building a 30-point advantage after three quarters of play.
  • St. Mary's was held to just seven free throws made in the final period as the Seahawks went 0-of-6 – all from behind the three-point line.

Inside the Box Score

  • Kline connected on a pair of triples and went 3-of-4 at the free throw line in recording her third straight double-digit scoring game.
  • Haller hauled in a game- and season-best 12 rebounds, including 11 defensive boards, while adding eight points.
  • Sophomore forward Kobe Chaney (Edgewater, Md./South River) registered a season-best four blocks for the second time this season while chipping in six points and four caroms.

Up Next

University (4-1, 1-0 CAC), who received a vote in this week's D3hooops.com Top 25. Tip-off is 1:00 p.m.
