Box Score

Fredericksburg, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team, seeded sixth, wrapped up their 2015-16 campaign in the first round of the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, falling to No. 3 seed University of Mary Washington, 78-48, on Tuesday evening.

Junior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) would take the lead for the Seahawks, recording her 11th double-double of the season with 17 points and game-high 10 rebounds. Haller scored 11 of her points in the second half. Following her momentum was sophomore captain Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James School) with nine points, three steals, and two boards.

Thanks to a three-pointer from sophomore guard Christine Morin (Kensington, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]), St. Mary's was only down 13-10 at the end of the first quarter. Mary Washington, however, claimed a hefty 16-point at halftime following a 21-5 run to end the first half.

The Seahawks (8-18) shot better in the second half but it was not enough to slow down Mary Washington who built a 33-point margin with 7:51 remaining in the game as first-year guard Meghan Comer (Crozet, Va./Monticello) hit a jumper.

Junior center Brianne Comden (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) would pace the game for the Eagles, scoring a game-best 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting. Comden also added four rebounds while sophomore guard Kendall Parker (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) came off the bench to contribute 18 points in each half of the game.

As a team, the Seahawks shot 27.5-percent from the floor, including a game-high 33.3-percent in the first and fourth quarters. St. Mary's finished the game with 29 rebounds, eight assists, eight steals, and three blocks.

The Eagles (22-4) posted 56.0-field goal percentage for the game while totaling 37 rebounds, 17 assists, six steals, and three blocks. Mary Washington now advances to No. 2 seed Christopher Newport University for the semifinals of the CAC Tournament on Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m.
