Haller, Kline Lead St. Mary's Women's Basketball against Mary Washington

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team played another solid first half but could not hold on in falling 60-36 to the University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.

The loss puts St. Mary's (6-14, 4-9 CAC) one game out playoff contention behind Penn State Harrisburg (9-11, 5-8 CAC) while Mary Washington (17-3, 11-2 CAC) remains in a two-way tie for second with No. 24 Christopher Newport University (18-2, 11-2 CAC).

Junior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and sophomore captain Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James) each tallied 14 points in leading the Seahawks tonight. Haller finished two rebounds from a double-double as she hauled in eight boards.

St. Mary's stayed on the Eagles' heels throughout the first half as Mary Washington could not get more than a four-point separation for a majority of the half. In the second quarter, UMW established a seven-point at 4:29 on a three-pointer by senior guard Megan Green (Burke, Va./Robinson). However, the Seahawks used an 8-2 run to close out the half and only trail 22-21 at halftime.

Haller notched 12 points and five rebounds in the first half to lead all players while junior center Brianne Comden (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) paced the Eagles with 10 points.

St. Mary's would post its final lead of the game at the start of the third quarter as senior guard Anna McClain's (Durham, N.C./Carolina Friends) jumper gave her team a 23-22 advantage at 8:13. It was all Mary Washington from this point on as the Eagles ended the third on a 21-7 run and never looked back.

Comden finished the night with a game-best 25 points and six rebounds while sophomore guard Kendall Parker (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) contributed 14 points off the bench with four triples.

The Seahawks will be on the road for their next two games, starting this Saturday, February 6th at Frostburg State University (3-17, 0-13 CAC) for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off before traveling to York College of Pennsylvania (16-4, 10-3 CAC) on Wednesday, February 10th.
