St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team finished as the runner-up at the 10th Seahawk Invitational, posting a 3-1 record over the two-day tournament. The Seahawks wrapped up tournament action Saturday afternoon with a sweep of Medgar Evers College (25-4, 25-7, 25-2) and a four-set victory over Methodist University (25-13, 25-16, 13-25, 25-22).
St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Medgar Evers 0 (25-4, 25-7, 25-2)
How It Happened
- Medgar Evers staked a 4-2 lead early on in the first set but then sophomore middle blocker Hannah Krauss (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) took over, tying up the set at 4-4 with a kill and service ace. Krauss would serve 22 consecutive times to finish out the game.
- The Seahawks opened up the second set on a 6-0 run and senior Carissa Hill (Lanham, Md./Pallotti) led the way with three kills.
- In the third set, St. Mary's jumped out to an 8-0 advantage and went on to build a 24-1 lead before a Medgar Evers miscue ended the match.

For Medgar Evers (0-8)
- Melisa Wright (5 digs, 3 kills, 2 service aces); Naomi Chandler (3 kills, 2 digs); Adenike Akindude (4 digs, 3 assists).
- The Cougars attacked at a -.300 clip with a pair of service aces.
St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Methodist 1 (25-13, 25-16, 13-25, 25-22)
How It Happened
- St. Mary's never trailed in the first two sets and cruised to a 2-0 match advantage. Senior outside hitter Alli Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) paced the Seahawks with six kills in each set.
- The Monarchs responded by taking the third after breaking a 4-4 tie with a 21-9 push to close out the set. Sophomore middle blocker Brittany Ter Meer (Fuquay-Varina, N.C./Cape Fear Christian) helped force the fourth set with six kills.
- Holding a 23-17 advantage, the Seahawks needed to stave off a late rally as Methodist pulled within 24-22. Graf put the match away with her 25th kill of the match.
For The Seahawks (8-4)
- A. Graf (25 kills, 5 digs, 2 assists, 2 block assists); Kelley (10 kills, 5 digs); Mia Griffiths (37 assists, 7 digs, 4 service aces); Marissa Dangler (18 digs); Meghan Griffiths (14 digs, 6 kills).
- St. Mary's posted a .214 attack percentage with seven service aces and 4.0 team blocks.
For Methodist (4-9)
- Cassidy Hayes (12 kills, 4 digs, 3 block assists); Jamie Jones (11 kills, 2 block assists); Maggie Harris (35 assists, 7 digs); Annabelle Ronelli (16 digs); Kaitlyn Rush (11 digs, 3 kills); Autumn Elder (10 digs).
- The Monarchs tallied a .164 hitting percentage for the match with 6.0 team blocks and two service aces.
Notes
- William Peace University captured the Seahawk Invitational team trophy with a 4-0 mark while WPU's senior outside hitter Laura Bland (Wilson, N.C./Fike) was named the Tournament MVP.
