Lexington, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland volleyball team split their first two games at the Washington and Lee University Invitational Friday evening. St. Mary's handed Randolph-Macon College a 3-2 setback (19-25, 25-17, 26-24, 14-25, 15-9) before falling in four to Averett University (18-25, 18-25, 25-19, 22-25).
St. Mary's (Md.) 3, Randolph-Macon 2 (19-25, 25-17, 26-24, 14-25, 15-9)
How It Happened
- St. Mary's dropped the first set before rebounding with back-to-back wins in the second and third sets.
- Randolph-Macon pushed the match to five sets by rolling to a 25-14 victory in the fourth.
- The Seahawks regrouped and held on for the 15-9 triumph in the fifth and deciding set.
- Sophomore outside hitter Meghan Kelley (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) exploded for a career- and match-high 26 kills and finished hitting .388 for the match while senior setter Mimi Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) dished a career-high 40 assists.
For The Seahawks (5-1)
- Kelley (career- and match-best 26 kills, 3 digs); Mimi Graf (career-best 40 assists, 14 digs, 6 kills); Alli Graf (17 digs, 8 kills, 5 assists); Carissa Hill (15 digs, career-best 3 kills, 2 assists); Marissa Dangler (15 digs, 2 assists).
- St. Mary's hit a season-best .231 in the match, collected six team blocks, and tallied eight service aces.
For Randolph-Macon (0-2)
- Miranda Hall (21 kills, 11 digs); Mariah Clark (13 kills, 7 digs, 2 block assists); Rebecca McGilvery (13 kills, 11 digs); Erin Quinn (53 assists, 14 digs, 2 kills, 2 service aces); Samantha Sallade (21 digs, 5 assists).
- The Yellow Jackets posted a .210 hitting percentage in the contest as well as eight service aces and seven team blocks.
Averett 3, St. Mary's 1 (18-25, 18-25, 25-19, 22-25)
How It Happened
- St. Mary's avoided the sweep with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
- Senior outside hitter Alli Graf (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) paced the Seahawks in the loss with a career-best 21 kills while her sister, Mimi, upped her career-best assist mark by one with a match-best 41 assists.
- A. Graf also led the team defensively with a career- and match-high 26 digs.
For The Seahawks (5-2)
- A. Graf (career-bests of 26 digs, 21 kills, 8 assists); M. Graf (career-best 41 assists, 13 digs, 8 kills, 2 block assists); Meghan Kelley (16 kills, 6 digs); Carissa Hill (12 digs, 2 kills, 2 service aces); Meghan Griffiths (10 digs, 3 kills, 3 service aces, career-best 2 assists).
- St. Mary's finished the match with a .170 attack percentage, three team blocks, and six service aces.
For Averett (6-0)
- Hannah Shields (19 kills, 19 digs, 2 assists, 2 block assists); Sarah Smoot (10 kills, 6 digs, 2 block assists); Keenan Marks (40 assists, 13 digs, 2 kills); Christiana Summa (18 digs).
- The Cougars hit .220 for the match with eight service aces and 13 team blocks.

- Following her two double-doubles on Saturday, M. Graf is just three shy of her 50th career double-double.
