- The Short Story: Senior center Nina Haller (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was the only Seahawk to score in double digits as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference road game at No. 6 Christopher Newport University. Christopher Newport extended its season-opening winning streak to 14 with an 80-44 victory Wednesday night.
How It Happened
- St. Mary's was able to hang with the host Captains in the first quarter, establishing a 13-7 lead at 4:25 on a 3-ball by junior captain Olivia Nowlin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg). It was the biggest, and last lead, by the Seahawks as CNU posted a 10-3 run to stake a one-point lead at the end of one.
- The Seahawks were held to seven points in the second period while Christopher Newport used 14 second-chance points, including 10 in the paint, to secure a 36-23 halftime advantage.
- Haller notched seven of her 13 points plus a third of her nine rebounds in the first half to lead St. Mary's in the first 20 minutes.
- CNU outscored the Seahawks, 22-7, in the third stanza as the Captains gained 13 points off of eight St. Mary's turnovers.
- The Seahawks picked up half of their 14 points in the fourth at the free throw line, going 7-of-12, while first-year Ashley Downs (Columbia, Md./Franklin) connected on her second triple of the game.
Inside the Box Score
- Haller finished the evening with 13 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks while junior captain Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James) contributed nine on 6-of-8 from the line plus three boards.
- Sophomore forward Kobe Chaney (Edgewater, Md./South River) chipped in six points as Chaney drilled her first career three-pointer while adding six caroms and a season-best four blocks.
- Downs tallied six points on a season-best two three-pointers.

- St. Mary's will look to get back on track on Saturday, January 14 when the Seahawks welcome Southern Virginia University (3-11, 0-7 CAC) to the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena on Youth Appreciation Day.
