- The Short Story: The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team had a pair of starters score in double-digits but St. Mary's picked up its first loss of the season, falling 77-66 on the road to Shenandoah University Friday night.

How It Happened
- Shenandoah notched the game's opening basket and then held a one-point lead at 18:04 before the Seahawks ran out to a 23-13 advantage following a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Reggie Rouse (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) at 7:35.
- Aaron Patterson rained three triples and finished with 11 points in the final 6:26 of the half to sustain the Hornets' 21-9 run to close out the first stanza and post a 34-32 lead at the break.
- Patterson led all scorers at halftime with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from downtown. In addition, SU had nine first-half steals and picked up 10 fast break points.
- In first game back, sophomore guard Matt Ayoub (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) paced St. Mary's with nine first-half points on the strength of three three-pointers.
- Shenandoah stretched its to lead to six in the opening minutes of the second half before the Seahawks responded with a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead, 42-41, at 15:39 on a dunk by senior wing Chris Craft, Jr. (Waldorf, Md./Westlake).
- After a jumper by first-year forward Marquis Bullett (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) gave St. Mary's its final lead of the game, 44-41, at 14:22, the Hornets opened up a 12-point advantage in less than six minutes and never looked back.
- Back-to-back triples from Rouse and Ayoub closed the gap to four at 2:29 and Rouse's layup with under a minute to go kept the Seahawks within four.
- The Hornets went 7-of-8 from the free throw line, including six straight by Jonah Meredith, to seal the deal on their first win of the season.
Inside the Box Score
- Ayoub ended the night with a team-best 16 points behind five long-range shots while adding five rebounds and a career-best three assists.
- Senior guard Ochae Bynum (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and Craft each contributed 10 points while Craft tallied four boards and two assists.
- Sophomore forwards Spencer Schultz (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) and Darick Kerns (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) and first-year forward Kevin Makle (Finksburg, Md./Randallstown) each hauled in eight caroms as the Seahawks registered a 54-43 rebounding margin.
- Patterson finished the night a game and team-best 22 points while Meredith chipped in 13 and Kwa McDonald added 11. On the boards, Christopher Chaney led the way with seven.
