St. Mary’s College Stymied by Mary Washington

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team stepped out of United East Conference play for the last time this season as St. Mary's College (9-5) welcomed former Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference nemesis, University of Mary Washington, to the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium Wednesday night. Mary Washington (7-3-2) extended the Seahawks' losing streak to three with a 6-1 decision, including scoring four in the second half.

How It Happened
  • Mary Washington jumped out to a 2-0 advantage with goals from Carter Berg in the 10th minute and Josh Kirkland in the 28th minute.
  • In the 34th minute, the Seahawks were awarded a penalty kick after first-year forward Alex Ochman (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) was tripped in the penalty box. Senior defender Jacob Breslauer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty kick for his fourth goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • After halftime, the Eagles continued their relentless attack, adding four more goals and limiting St. Mary's College to three shots.
  • Julian Schmugge tapped in the rebound of Josh Kirkland's header, which ricocheted of the near post across the mouth of the goal, for his first of the season in the 60th minute.
  • Mary Washington went up 4-1 in the 67th minute with Abel Luwis' left-footed strike off an assist from Jeremy Hokenson.
  • Hokenson added a second assist in the 80th minute on Will Thompson's goal before heading one in for a goal of his own in the 81st minute.

  • Mary Washington stretches its unbeaten streak against the Seahawks to seven (6-0-1) with tonight's victory. St. Mary's College's last win over the Eagles came on October 18, 2017, by a 2-0 decision in St. Mary's City.
