St. Mary’s College Men’s Soccer Battles Lancaster Bible to 2-2 Draw

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team (12-5-1, 6-1-1 UEC) ended the regular season Saturday afternoon with a 2-2 draw with Lancaster Bible College (9-4-4, 4-1-3 UEC) on Senior Day.

Prior to the start of the match, St. Mary's College recognized its seven seniors for their years of dedication and leadership – defender Jacob Breslauer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown), forward Isaac Ekobo (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone), midfielder Aidan Kelley (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett), captain Josh Luongo (Dunkirk, Md./Northern), defender Ian Musser (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), captain Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt), and midfielder Owen Smith (Middletown, Md./Middletown).

How It Happened
  • St. Mary's College never trailed in the game as the Seahawks struck first in the eighth minute when Smith converted a penalty kick after junior captain Matt Barlow (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was taken down in the box.
  • The 1-0 Seahawk lead held until the 20th minute when Kedric Yoder sent in a cross from the left corner towards the far post and Michael Eufemia settled it with one touch before firing a right-footed shot for the equalizer.
  • Each side generated two more quality scoring opportunities but both goalies were up to the challenge and the two teams headed into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.
  • St. Mary's College went up 2-1 in the 61st minute when Panton's shot was saved by Isaac Barrow and rebounded straight up before coming down and finding the head of sophomore forward Jason Caro (Lanham, Md./Good Counsel) to renew the Seahawks' one-goal lead.
  • However, the lead didn't last long as Yoder once again assisted on another Chargers' equalizer just 39 seconds later. Yoder's free kick towards the near post skidded off Chad Tolson's head for the goal.
  • In the final two minutes of regulation, defenders Jacob Breslauer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Evan Marx (Laurel, Md./Meade) each had scoring chances but Barrow denied both to maintain the tied score.
  • Yoder looked to win the game for Lancaster Bible in the 89th minute but junior Liam deLone-Bellsey (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) deflected it out of bounds, forcing the game into overtime as the Chargers were unable to compose an attack off the corner kick.
  • In the two extra frames, neither team had a shot on frame.

  • The Seahawks, who are fourth in this week's United Soccer Coaches Region IV poll, finished the contest with a 24-17 (9-7) shot advantage while edging Lancaster Bible, 9-6, in corners.
