NAPLES, Fla. – Senior forward
Cameron Rucker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) put up his first career double-double but the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team fell just shy of their third win of the season Sunday afternoon. St. Mary's College (2-5) came up short in a 61-58 non-conference overtime loss to Albright College (3-5) in the D3 Naples Shootout.
Rucker notched career-bests of 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Seahawks while sophomore forward
Gary Grant (Washington, D.C./Thomas Stone [Md.]) added 15 points.
How It Happened
- Grant tallied 10 points and St. Mary's College shot over 41-percent, including 4-of-9 from downtown, to post a 31-26 halftime advantage.
- The Seahawks more than tripled than their five-point halftime lead with an 11-2 run in the first seven minutes of the second stanza to boast a 42-28 margin – their largest lead of the game – at the 13:04 mark following a fastbreak layup by Rucker.
- However, Albright responded in kind as the Lions forged a 23-9 over the next 12 minutes to knot the game at 51-51 with 1:45 remaining in the game.
- After being fouled on a three-point attempt, Rucker made two of three free throws to put St. Mary's College back on top by two with 23 ticks on the clock.
- Isaiah Harris grabbed the offensive rebound from a teammate's miss and laid it up to send the game into overtime with three seconds left.
- In the extra frame, Sidney Brown scored Albright's first seven points for a 60-54 lead at 1:20 – the Lions' first lead since scoring the game's first bucket at the 19:21 mark of the first half.
- The Seahawks offense was stifled in overtime as they were limited to just one three-point field goal with 11 seconds to go, shooting under 15-percent over the final five minutes.
Inside the Box Score
- This is St. Mary's College's second loss by five points or less and first overtime contest of the season.
- The Seahawks shot 40-percent or better during regulation and picked up 25 points from 24 Albright turnovers.
- Brown finished the game with a game-best 21 points while Zyon Grant and Eric Chamberlain each contributed 11 points as the Lions snapped a four-game skid.
