Baseball Drops Doubleheader to #3 Salisbury

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team (8-10, 6-6 C2C) hosted the #3 Salisbury University Sea Gulls (16-3, 9-1 C2C) on Friday (Apr. 23) afternoon in Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference action. The Seahawks dropped game one 6-2 and fell in game two 11-3. 

How It Happened (Game One)
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Sea Gulls grabbed the lead with two runs in the second inning. Salisbury tacked on another run in the fifth inning to extend their advantage to 3-0.
  • The Seahawks finally broke through on the scoreboard when Andy Collins drove a single to right field, plating Dillon Waters and Joey Bryner. Leading by one, Salisbury gave themselves some breathing room with three runs in the seventh and held the Seahawks scoreless for the remainder of the game for the victory.
Inside the Box Score
  • Max Elliott led the Seahawks from the plate with three hits in four appearances to the plate. In addition, Elliott led St. Mary's College with one stolen base. Collins recorded the lone RBI of the game for the Seahawks. 
  • Mark Smith started the game on the mound for the Seahawks and threw three innings. Smith recorded three strikeouts and allowed two earned runs. Jake Wills pitched the next three innings and delivered three strikeouts, while allowing one run. Tyson Johnson threw the final three innings and also struck out three batters, while allowing two earned runs.
How It Happened (Game Two)
  • Salisbury struck first in the contest with one run in the first inning. St. Mary's College answered by adding two runs in the second inning to grab a 2-1 lead. Brady Waters lined a two RBI single in the inning to give the Seahawks the early advantage. 
  • The Sea Gulls tied the game up at two with a run in the top of the third, but the Seahawks responded in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI single from Elliott to retake the lead 3-2. 
  • Salisbury broke the game open in the fifth inning with six runs to capture a 8-3 lead. From there, the Sea Gulls tacked on one run in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings for the 11-3 victory.
Inside the Box Score (Game Two)
  • D. Waters led the Seahawks from the plate with two hits in four appearances. B. Waters posted a team-high two RBI. 
  • Jackson Edelman started the game on the mound for the Seahawks and threw 4.2 innings. Edelman struck out one batter and allowed two earned runs. Will Spanoghe, Nick Testoni, Jake Sandridge, and Bryan Brooks pitched in relief. Sandridge held the Sea Gulls scoreless and tallied one strikeout.
