Seahawks Fall to #2 Salisbury on Senior Day

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-4 C2C) hosted the #2 Salisbury University Sea Gulls (13-0, 8-0 C2C) on Saturday (Apr. 24) afternoon. The Seahawks fell to the Sea Gulls 13-4 on Senior Day.

How It Happened
  • The Seahawks and Sea Gulls played a tightly contested first half of action. St. Mary's College struck first for the early advantage with a goal from Dominic Venanzi. Jeremiah Clemmer was credited with the assist. Next, Salisbury tallied back-to-back goals to capture a 2-1 lead. With short time remaining in the first quarter, Jude Brown found Abe Hubbard for the score and headed into the second frame tied 2-2.
  • The second stanza of play was another defensive battle that had the Sea Gulls outscore the Seahawks 2-0. St. Mary's College headed into halftime trailing Salisbury 4-2. 
  • Salisbury opened up the scoring in the third quarter but the Seahawks responded with a man-up goal from Venanzi. From there, Salisbury ended the quarter with a four-goal run to extend their lead to 9-3. 
  • Salisbury brought their momentum into the final quarter of action with back-to-back goals to jump out to an 11-3 advantage. St. Mary's College scored their final goal of the game with nine minutes remaining in regulation when Cameron Linger ripped a shot into the back of the cage. Salisbury tacked on two more goals to end the contest.
Inside the Box Score
  • Venanzi led the Seahawks on the offensive end with two goals. Defensively, Anthony Sparacino tallied a team-best two caused turnovers, while Sparacino and Sam Jaudon collected a team-high three ground balls each. In goal, DJ Walker recorded 14 saves.
  • Cross Ferrara led the Sea Gulls with five goals and one assist.
