Seahawks Men’s Soccer Posts Dominant Win at Elmer Lord Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – Senior midfielder Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) had a hand in three goals Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team (2-0) picked up a 5-1 non-conference victory over Eastern Mennonite University (0-1) at the Elmer Lord Tournament hosted by Salisbury University.
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks opened up the scoring in the 14th minute when Panton finished off a pass from senior midfielder Owen Smith (Middletown, Md./Middletown) for his first score of 2021 and a 1-0 SMCM lead.
  • Junior forward Thomas Williamson (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) doubled the St. Mary's College lead with an unassisted tally at 17:44.
  • Panton set up senior defender Jacob Breslauer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) for a 3-0 Seahawk advantage in the 31st minute.
  • SMCM headed into halftime with a four-to-nothing lead as sophomore forward Casey Cruz (Great Mills, Md./Leonardtown) netted his first collegiate goal just 57 seconds before the break. Senior defender Ian Musser (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) assisted on the play.
  • Eastern Mennonite avoided the shutout loss thanks to an unassisted goal by Nico MacGregor at 51:28.
  • Panton completed the brace in the 55th minute as he put back the rebound from senior defender Jacob Breslauer's (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) shot, which was saved by Ahmed Zaatar.
