LATHAM, N.Y. – Junior Daryn Alexander (Twinbrook, Md./Richard Montgomery) was named the United East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 30 as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
 
Alexander averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.7 assists while shooting 46.4-percent (13-28) from the field in a 3-0 week for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team. He also shot 43.8-percent (7-16) from downtown.
 
The 6-2 guard started the week with a season-best 18 points on career-highs of five free throws made (5-5) and three three-point field goals made (3-7) in an 84-53 road victory at Gallaudet University on January 25.
 
He also notched career-bests of seven rebounds and seven steals plus connected on a season-best five field goals made in an 86-53 win over Penn College on January 29. Alexander finished the game with 14 points.
 
Alexander made 12 straight free throws, including nine straight between the Gallaudet (5-5) and Penn State Abington (4-4) games. He started his 12 consecutive free throws made streak by ending the game against SUNY Morrisville (Jan. 14), 1-of-1, and starting the Penn College game, 2-of-2, before finishing 0-of-3.
 
St. Mary's College (9-5, 8-0 UEC) will be back in action on tomorrow, Tuesday, February 1, when the Seahawks battle the conference's other undefeated team, Penn State Harrisburg (16-1, 9-0 UEC), at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena for a United East matchup at 6:00 p.m.
