WASHINGTON, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team opened action at the Battle of Maryland/D.C. Saturday afternoon. St. Mary's College (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling 63-58 to Hood College (2-2) despite 14 points from senior guard
Daryn Alexander (Twinbrook, Md./Richard Montgomery) and a double-double from junior forward
Gary Grant (Washington, D.C./Thomas Stone [Md.]).
The Seahawks will face Gallaudet University (0-3) in Sunday's consolation game at 12:00 p.m. while Hood will take on host The Catholic University of America (5-0) at 2:00 p.m.
How It Happened
- Although the Seahawks notched the first two baskets of the game, Hood opened a 16-6 lead at 13:46 behind nine points from Jevon Yarbrough.
- An Alexander triple and assist helped St. Mary's regain a three-point lead at 7:16 and capped an 18-5 run.
- The Blazers briefly retook the lead before the Seahawks closed out the first half on a 6-0 run to take a 30-29 edge into halftime.
- The back-and-forth continued in the second half as neither team could create true separation until Hood broke a 51-51 draw with a 12-7 run to secure the five-point non-conference win and a spot in the Battle of Maryland/D.C. championship game.

- Grant recorded his first double-double of the season on 13 points and a game-best 11 rebounds.
- Sophomore forward Naz Fisher (Washington, D.C./Washington Latin) was the third Seahawk to score in double figures with 11 points on a career-best five field goals made. Fisher also grabbed six boards.
- St. Mary's finished the game shooting 45.1-percent (23-51) from the field while notching its three-point field goal percentage thus far this season at 33.3-percent (6-18).
Hood Game Notes
- Trumaine Strickland led all scorers with 20 points while Soren Almquist tallied a dozen and Garrison Linton contributed 10 points and five assists.
- The Blazers connected on 11 three-point field goals and were 12-of-16 (75%) from the free throw line, including 11-of-14 during the second half.
