Seahawks Men’s Basketball Stumbles at Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team dropped their third straight Thursday night, splitting the season series with Penn State Harrisburg. St. Mary's College (11-8, 10-3 UEC) slips to third in the United East Conference standings following an 81-53 loss to the host Penn State Harrisburg Lions (19-2, 12-1 UEC).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks fell behind 10-0 in the first six minutes of the game before senior forward Cameron Rucker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) put St. Mary's College on the board at 13:52 with a three-pointer.
  • Nate Curry and Dylan Daniels combined for 15 of Harrisburg's next 22 points over the next 11 minutes to stretch the Lions' advantage to 32-17 with 2:35 remaining in the first half.
  • St. Mary's College scored the final seven points of the half to head into the locker room down eight.
  • After shooting 37.0-percent in the first half, the Seahawks' shooting percentage bottomed out at 30.0-percent in the final frame, including going 0-for-7 from downtown.
  • The hosts outscored St. Mary's College by 20 in the second half as Harrisburg shot 50.0-percent over the final 20 minutes, including connecting on 6-of-12 three-pointers.

  • The Seahawks, who didn't make it to the free throw line in the first half, went 11-of-13 at the charity stripe in the second stanza.
  • This is the second time this season that St. Mary's College has been held to a season-low 53 points as Johns Hopkins University posted a 75-53 win over the Seahawks on November 20.
  • First-year guard Elijah Crawford (Oxon Hill, Md./Potomac) was the only SMCM player to score in double figures as Crawford tallied 16 points and collected team-bests of eight boards and three steals.
  • In his first game back since January 17, junior guard Jordan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mills) contributed nine points on three triples and four assists.
  • The Lions capitalized on 18 St. Mary's College turnovers, earning 27 points off the Seahawk miscues, while outscoring the visitors, 34-16, in the paint.
  • Harrisburg also edged the visitors, 37-36, in rebounds as Pedro Rodriguez led the way with eight caroms.
  • Donyae Baylor-Carroll poured in a game-high 25 points while Daniels finished with 17 and Curry chipped in 15 in the Lions' third straight since suffering their first and only conference setback – a one-point loss at St. Mary's College – just nine days ago.
